How to use liquid COQ-10 to your skincare routine today

You may have seen the limited edition release of Sunshine - Liquid Antioxidant Treatment Oil during our most recent Top Up. You may have been wondering what on earth it actually does, and what the benefit of it could be.

This oil features a massive concentration of liquid COQ-10 (Fermented from natural, plant-based ingredients) - a dose of pure antioxidants.

Why should you use CoQ10 in your skincare routine?

First of all, Coenzyme Q10 is a nutrient that occurs naturally in the body - it is a fat-soluble vitamin-like substance present in every cell of the human body. As a coenzyme, it is vital to the production of energy within your cells.

A coenzyme is a substance that enhances or is necessary for the action of enzymes. They are generally much smaller than enzymes themselves.

How does it apply to my skincare routine?

What we were interested in from a skincare point of view, is that it is also a very powerful antioxidant or free radical scavenger.

What are free radicals, you may ask?

Basically, they are produced by normal cell metabolism, but they can build up in cells and cause damage to other molecules. This damage done by free radicals may appear in several forms: premature wrinkles, unwanted pigmentation, unevenness in skin tone, and lackluster skin.

CoQ10 reduces these free radicals, and therefore helps to reduce the damage to your skin.

In fact, when CoQ10 is applied directly to the skin, it has been shown to reduce damage caused by free radicals and UV rays and even decrease the depth of wrinkles, as well as epithelial cell turnover.

Keratinocyte cells make up the majority of human skin cells and CoQ10 has been shown to protect these skin cells from oxidative DNA damage brought on by ultraviolet light.

Now, we know that was a lot of scientific jargon, but you probably get this gist - CoQ10 applied topically is going to keep your skin looking younger, smoother and wrinkle-free, for longer!

The Sunshine Oil has been combined with a potent mix of skin-soothing powerhouses - Chamomile, Calendula and arnica. These oils are anti-inflammatory and help the skin’s long term recovery.

How to use: Apply 1-2 drops in the evening, swapping out your Layer Once or Bright Treatment Oil.

We recommend partnering Sunshine with our new Cocoon - Antioxidant Recovery Masque. Just add a few drops to the dry mask mix before applying.
